McNeese State University's The Contraband has returned to the Web. The publication launched its new website recently, marking the first time since one 1999 issue was published on the Net that it has been online, according to The Contraband Adviser Candace Townsend.

The new online publication is part of what The Contraband Editorial Board members and Editor-in-Chief Anthony Ray call a multi-dimensional attempt at improvement.

"We're attempting to undergo some change for the better," Ray said. "This was just a step we felt necessary to the whole getting-better process. It adds a major convenience factor to our publication and keeps us somewhat on par with other schools' papers."

The site is hosted by College Publisher, Inc., one of two national companies that assist colleges and universities with publishing their online newspapers, according to Townsend.

"Extensive research was done to determine which would be the better of the two companies for McNeese," Townsend said. College Publisher proved to be the more appropriate choice.

The company manages and hosts more than 260 online college newspapers at no cost to the schools.
